NEW NEW EUROPEAN WRITING_
One of the central goals for the European Theatre Convention is to support the circulation of contemporary plays and the development of new plays in Europe, with a special concentration on young playwrights.
EUROPEAN THEATRE TODAY
For more that 15 years the ETC produces the biannuel publication "The European Theatre Today - The Plays" which gathers some of the best plays from each country in Europe. The next edition will be released in May 2008. This time, "The European Theatre Today" takes a new form as a web publication with different search functions, as well as a printable version in English and in French. The 2006 edition can be found under the menu "Previous Editions"
TRAMES
The project TRAMES, initiated by the theatre La Comédie de Saint-Etienne in France, gathers translators and directors from different countries around a new contemporary play. The goal of the project is to make the participants discover of a new play and playwright by a thorough examination of a text in a residence/workshop. The text is translated into different European languages and staged it in the presence of the translators and the playwright. The TRAMES has been a successful ETC-project with several member theatres participating every year, often with the positive result that the workshop play gets staged in one or more of the participating member theatres.
TER
The ETC is collaborating with "La Maison Antoine Vitez", a French center of theatrical translation, on the project TER. The goal of TER (traduction, édition and réalisation) is to create a European network for circulation of contemporary plays, and eventually make stage them in partner theatres and festivals all around Europe. The project is right now in the construction of the international network gathering partners organisations (theatres, festivals, universities) in ten European countries.
