Piramatiki Skini tisTechnis- Amalia Theatre

Founded in 1979, the Piramatiki Skini of Thessaloniki has established itself as one of the most prominent theatre companies in Greece. The Piramatiki Skini has constantly sought to reach beyond the "initiated" theatre-goers, making adventurous theatre accessible to the wider public. Innovative productions of classical plays, the presentation of contemporary playwrights previously unseen in Greece, cross-fertilization between theatre research and theatre practice, and decentralisation of theatrical activity outside the national capital are some of the principles that underlie the Company's continuous activity over the last 30 years.

Piramatiki Skini has toured extensively throughout Greece, and also in Italy, France, UK, Norway, Sweden, Slovenia, Hungary, Egypt and Australia. Piramatiki Skini publishes the Theatrical Notebooks, organises exhibitions, concerts and conferences on things theatrical. For 12 years (1994-2006), the Company has also been responsible for the organization of the international "Spring Theatre Festival". Piramatiki Skini is a member of the European Theatre Convention since 1996.

The company Piramatiki Skini has placed special emphasis on the establishment of a permanent company of actors. Today, the company employs on a full-time basis 15-20 actors, 4 stage-technicians and 4 administrative staff members. Artistic Director is Nikiforos Papandreou, the company's founder. The plays Piramatiki Skini presents on average 6 productions per year, of which 4 are new and 2 repeated from previous seasons. Plays are presented in repertory (3 different plays within the week, 2 different cycles within the year). In the first 24 years of its existence, the Piramatiki Skini has presented 70 plays, covering a wide range of Greek and international repertory.
