Founded in 1979 by Gisèle Sallin (stage director) and Véronique Mermoud (theater actress) the Théâtre des Osses aimed from the start at establishing itself as a quality theater compagny: giving priority to artistic demands, always seeking to perform numerous plays in Switzerland and abroad and favoring a long term vision rather than pursuing short term goals. After several years of traipsing, the Théâtre des Osses took roots in the canton of Fribourg, first in 1988, when the first subsidies from the State of Fribourg were attributed to the company, and again in 1990 when the theater settled permanently in Givisiez. To consolidate its foundations, to guarantee a roof to the theater and to definitely anchor the project into the future, Gisèle Sallin and Véronique Mermoud decided in November 1996 to sign over all the belongings acquired over the years to the Théâtre des Osses Foundation. On July first 2002, the Théâtre des Osses became the Fribourg Drama Center. What is a drama center? This denomination is given to play production theaters, established in the region. It implies having in-house rehearsals, performances, set and costume workshops, resident authors, musical compositions, an administration and a technical service specialized in the field and related budget.
